2018 was, without doubt, my busiest (and most rewarding) year yet since becoming a professional photographer back in 2013. I had TONS of fun documenting 26 weddings and 13 family shoots! It was a real honour to be trusted by so many people with such an important job.
I’ve also picked up, and resonated with, a saying called #dontbelievethehype this year at a wedding photographer conference I attended in November. It was called 9DOTS in case you’re a photographer and care! In the interests of being true to this, I’m going to tell you the 100% truth about the effect all of this work has had on me this year: It’s nearly pushed me over the edge! My wife, Cassie, has only very recently gone back to work as our youngest girl has started daycare 3 days a week. So, for purely financial reasons, I have sucked up doing a full-time job alongside my photography business for the last 4 years. This year the reality of doing two jobs and being a dad of two young girls really hit me hard.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, I just wanted to be honest! Rather than splurge out the usual things people say when they want to boast about their lives and business! I may have pushed myself to the limit in 2018, and plan to learn from it, but boy oh boy did I have a lot of fun along the way. The moral of my story: Look after yourselves kids, because we only get one shot at this fleeting thing called life!
Anybody else notice how fast 2018 disappeared? I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings, bring it on!
Thank you to all of my lovely couples and families who trusted me in 2018, it was a true privilage.
